As I walk through the aged hallway, my senses are tantalized. Little does Grandma know her house is practically brimming with treasures an interior designer today would kill to get their greedy, little hands on. She’s completely ignorant to the fact that her yellowing, lightly crinkled sepia photos lining the wall are the all the rave in today’s fashion décor magazines. That the faux rug stretched between her delicate antique end tables are more than mere sentiments. The simple truth is Grandma is styling!.

Good news to the elderly. Old is new!
So what is the scoop for those of us that weren’t around at the turn of the century acquiring such splendid assets? Are we doomed to wallow in our latest flashy threads found at the local discount store? No way!

The greatest part of revisiting an era is that there are plenty of splendors to choose from. Not all antiques need to put a hole in that change purse of yours. So first off, do not underestimate the power of an estate sale. Since we do live in the twenty-first century, it is best to keep proof of our modern day beauties. The idea is to accent your house with black and white photo’s, period furniture, and the correct amount of trinkets. Estate sales have proven time and time again that we can acquire good taste at a mere pittance of the original value. Vintage curtains and drapery can be found, with a little perusing, at antique malls or stores. Since minimalism is in, you want to make sure you don’t stuff in all that you can. Rather, take your time with your selections. Go shopping with a general idea, but open mind as to how you would like to “sensationalize” your home.

Remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but with some vintage touches here and there you will be able to “wow” all of your beholders as they take a step into a simpler time.
